09 / Hobart Town Tea Co

Sold as a set, and as the cup on its own

An online shop for a Hobart teaware company, built before the shop and tearooms opened. Teapots and cups are sold three ways: as a named collection, as a set, and as single pieces.

The brief

Teaware is bought in more than one shape. Somebody wants the whole Indulgent Tea Garden collection, somebody else wants the three piece set, and somebody else has broken one cup and wants that cup. The catalogue had to hold all three without making the shopper work out which page they are on.

What we built

  1. 01

Collections given names and photographed as a table setting, so a collection is something you can picture

  2. 02

A set page that lists every piece in the set, each priced and each able to be bought on its own

  3. 03

A product page for the single piece, with the rest of its collection underneath it

  4. 04

Free delivery, free returns and secure payment stated on a bar at the bottom of every page

  5. 05

The opening date for the retail shop and tearooms carried on the site while it was still being fitted out

Screens

The Indulgent Tea Garden set page in full: the set photographed on a laid table, a description, then a grid headed 'Products in this set' listing eight pieces, each priced with its own Add to Cart, and a footer bar stating free delivery, free returns and secure payment.
The set page that makes the catalogue work, shown whole. Every piece in the set is listed, priced and buyable on its own.
The full Hobart Town Tea Co homepage: a teapot logotype and seasonal banner for festive teapots and tea sets, then a Collections grid of six named collections photographed as table settings, a note about the retail shop and tearooms opening, and a footer bar.
The homepage end to end. Six named collections photographed as laid tables, and the opening date for the shop carried while it was still being fitted out.
The full product page for the Tea Garden Blackberry three piece set: the teapot shot on white, a description, an Add to Cart control, and a 'You may also like' row showing the rest of the collection.
A single piece, shot on white, with the rest of its collection underneath. This is the page a broken cup leads to.

Outcomes

  • The same teapot is reachable from a collection, from a set, and on its own

  • A broken cup can be replaced without buying another set

  • The shop had somewhere to send customers before the doors opened
